Sinopticon: Japanese edition

I never thought my literary curations would reach beyond the Anglosphere and into other regions of the world. It was a pleasant surprise to be contacted by Hayakawa Publishing in Japan who told me they wanted to publish an edition of my own-originated anthology, Sinopticon: A Celebration of Science Fiction.

As editor and project manager, new editions of a book came with its own workload of coordinations, discussions and cat herding. It was with great pleasure that I saw this edition published in the spring of 2025, with contributions from Ms Toya Tachihara, a key figure in the translation of Chinese science fiction in Japan. The designer had taken a different approach to the cover and title, focussing on one of the pieces featured in the collection, the zombie sci-fi Flower of the Other Shore by A Que, and naming the edition after another, Han Song’s Tombs of the Universe. It’s lovely, neat and compact, and the smallest format of books I’ve published so far.
